Sentient Beings Campaign

The Sentient Beings Campaign challenges the belief that farm animals are mere commodities to be used and exploited by human beings. The prevailing attitude that farm animals are tools of production and not living, feeling beings, has led to widespread abuse of cows, pigs, chickens, and other animals on factory farms. Chaired by Mary Tyler Moore, this campaign seeks to change the public's attitude toward farm animals and affirms that humans have an obligation to refrain from behaviors that cause animals to suffer.

The goal of the Sentient Beings Campaign is to improve the status of farm animals in the United States and to win basic protections. To this end, Farm Sanctuary encourages city, county, and state lawmakers to draft "Sentient Beings Proclamations" and educates the public through a grassroots public awareness campaign. This crucial campaign relies on activists to help approach their local municipalities…so we need your help!
