The Farm
California Shelter
Our 300-acre California farm sits on the eastern foothills of the coastal mountain
range near Orland. We are across the street from the Black Butte Lake and recreation
area, 10 minutes west of Interstate 5. The farm is 30 miles west of Chico, and
100 miles north of Sacramento.
Our California visitor center includes educational displays, a cruelty-free gift shop,
and a beautiful outdoor pavilion.

NOTE on the H1N1 (Swine Flu) Outbreak
Farm Sanctuary’s visitor season for both our California and New York shelters began on Saturday, May 2, and we are opened as planned for tours. We continue to stay on top of the latest developments concerning the H1N1 virus (commonly known as swine flu). Based on our research, as well as the current advice and information made available to us, we have decided to restrict access to our pig barns indefinitely.
Although none of the animals at either facility have any symptoms of infection, we do not wish to jeopardize the health of the animals in our care, who may be at risk of contracting this virus. We are making this decision based on the safety of the animals, as well as the peace of mind of our sanctuary visitors. All access points to our pig barn and pasture will be clearly marked to prevent any unauthorized individuals from entering these secured areas. We continue to monitor this developing situation and hope to open our pig barns to visitors as soon as we are confident that this virus has been contained.
