California Country Hoe Down
May 1 & 2, 2010 ● California Shelter ● Orland, CA

Grab your straw hat, slip on your overalls, and mosey on down to Farm Sanctuary’s California Shelter for our annual Country Hoe Down

At this unique conference for people of all ages, experience levels and backgrounds, you’ll not only have the chance to learn about current farm animal protection issues and campaigns from motivating speakers, but also acquire the tools you need to get active for animals in your community and help build a compassionate world for all.

And, of course, no Hoe Down would be complete without some down home fun. On Saturday afternoon, you will have the opportunity to hop on a hayride, stroll around the barnyard, and visit with the sanctuary residents. Throughout the day, you can peruse our silent auction and bid on jewelry, photography, art, and many more farm animal-friendly items that make great gifts or serve as the perfect reminders of your visit to Farm Sanctuary. At night, you are invited to enjoy a bountiful catered vegan meal with fellow animal advocates and let loose at the barn dance featuring live music and a contra dance caller. Then, when the stars are shining brightly, you can snuggle up with a blanket and learn about our night sky during a star gazing tour.

On Sunday morning, you are welcome to join us for a second day of activities, including a free vegan continental breakfast, Q&A with guest speakers, and guided tours of the sanctuary. Tours are offered every hour, on the hour beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. Our gift shop will also be open throughout the day, so feel free to visit and browse! See our full Hoe Down event program here.

Registration for the California Country Hoe Down is currently closed. We do, however, have a limited number of tickets still available. To reserve a ticket, please call 607-583-2225 ext. 221.

Rustic camping is available on the sanctuary for Saturday night. Reasonably-priced hotel accommodations are only a short drive from the sanctuary. For your convenience, we've provided directions and a list of local vegan-friendly restaurants.
