Farm Sanctuary Celebrates President and Co-founder Gene Baur as His Book Tour Comes to Hollywood

Celebrity and Activist Supporters Gather to Congratulate Gene Baur on the Release of his New Book, "Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food"

LOS ANGELES, CA - March 11, 2008 - On Saturday, March 15, Farm Sanctuary, the nation's leading farm animal protection organization, will host a party in Hollywood to celebrate the release of the much anticipated book by Gene Baur, the organization's president and co-founder. Baur will be joined by several celebrity animal advocates at Baur's childhood home in the Hollywood Hills to fete the release of, "Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food," published by Touchstone (a division of Simon & Schuster), now available wherever books are sold.

Guests will meet and mingle with Baur, as well as special guest celebrity supporters, Rosanna Arquette, Brendan Brazier, Emily Deschanel, Rory Freedman, Alexandra Paul, Daniela Sea, Loretta Swit, Persia White, Kelli Williams, and Bob Zmuda. Books will be available for purchase and signing, and 100 percent of author proceeds will be donated to Farm Sanctuary. Vegan refreshments will also be provided.

This celebration is part of Gene Baur's national book tour, in which he is scheduled to visit cities across the country to promote the book and share his experiences from more than 20 years on the front lines of the animal protection movement. He will explore the ethical questions involved in the production of beef, poultry, pork, milk, and eggs and address the systematic mistreatment of 10 billion farm animals who are exploited specifically for food every year in the U.S.

Praise for the book:

"A stunning indictment of factory farming and the way most Americans obtain their food . . . A life-altering read."

~ Booklist (starred review)

"Filled with hope, this book is written for all who strive for a more compassionate world. I highly recommend it."

~ Dr. Jane Goodall

"Some of the stories Gene Baur tells will break your heart and others will speak to your deepest convictions. It's a book about appalling cruelty and heroic kindness, and it points the way to a better world."

~ Alicia Silverstone

"Agribusiness factory farms subvert democracy and are some of the nation's worst polluters. This book shows how they also treat animals with unspeakable cruelty. It is a compelling testament to the need to civilize this industry and end its radical practices for producing meat, dairy and eggs."

~ Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
