Farm Sanctuary Voted “Favorite Animal Sanctuary” By
VegNews Magazine
Watkins Glen, N.Y. – December 30, 2008 – VegNews magazine, America’s premier vegetarian lifestyle magazine, named Farm Sanctuary a Veggie Award Winner in their annual readers’ poll in the December issue. With 30,000 Veggie Awards survey respondents voting for the year’s most esteemed people, places and products in nearly 50 categories, Farm Sanctuary took one of the top honors as “Favorite Animal Sanctuary” of 2008.
The “Favorite Animal Sanctuary” award was the first time the award was given and is Farm Sanctuary’s fourth Veggie Award. Farm Sanctuary's 20th Anniversary Gala for Farm Animals, co-chaired by acclaimed actress Daryl Hannah, won the editor’s choice award for the best event of the year in 2006. The organization has also won twice for the best vegetarian Bed & Breakfast in past readers’ polls.
In response to the news that Farm Sanctuary had won VegNews’ Veggie Award for “Favorite Animal Sanctuary,” President and co-founder Gene Baur expressed gratitude to the magazine’s readers for recognizing the organization’s achievements for farm animals.
“Being voted VegNews’ readers ‘favorite animal sanctuary’ is an honor that is only possible because of the dedication and generosity of Farm Sanctuary’s supporters, staff and volunteers,” he stated. “Farm Sanctuary is a labor of love, and we are grateful to work with so many compassionate citizens to provide refuge for rescued farm animals and to help create a more compassionate world for all.”
Attracting an audience of nearly 200,000 readers per issue, VegNews has established itself as the most popular vegetarian lifestyle publication in the U.S., and the annual Veggie Awards issue is consistently their best-selling in any given year. VegNews can be found online at www.vegnews.com.
