Farm Sanctuary Offers Refuge for More Animals from Watsonville Slaughterhouse

Six More Sick, Malnourished Goats from Santa Cruz County Heading to Sanctuary in Orland Today

Orland, CA - May 6, 2008 - Farm Sanctuary, which operates the largest rescue and refuge network for farm animals in North America, has offered refuge at its 300-acre rehabilitation and care facility in Orland, Calif. to six more neglected goats-including two new mothers and their twin kids- confiscated by Santa Cruz Animal Services from a Watsonville, Calif. slaughterhouse on Saturday, May 3.

The six additional goats will join six others already seized from the abattoir on Thursday, May 1, making a total of 12 animals who will travel from Santa Cruz to Orland, Calif. this morning. Once at Farm Sanctuary, the animals will receive medical and rehabilitative care and will either live out their lives at the shelter or be adopted out to compassionate homes. More information on the cruelty case can be found here.

Farm Sanctuary is the nation's leading farm animal protection organization. Since incorporating in 1986, Farm Sanctuary has worked to expose and stop cruel practices of the "food animal" industry through research and investigations, legal and institutional reforms, public awareness projects, youth education, and direct rescue and refuge efforts. Farm Sanctuary shelters in Watkins Glen, N.Y., and Orland, Calif., provide lifelong care for hundreds of rescued animals, who have become ambassadors for farm animals everywhere by educating visitors about the realities of factory farming.
