Move Over Vampires!
Farm Sanctuary’s Twilight Tour Sets the Mood for Night of Compassion
Leading Farm Animal Protection Organization’s California Shelter Stays Open Late for Special Sunset Tour, Vegan Treats and Music Under the Starry Sky
ORLAND, CALIF. – August 19, 2010 – This Saturday, Farm Sanctuary proves that “twilight” isn’t just for vampires anymore. Regardless of whether you are Team Edward or Team Jacob or Team “I don’t know what all the fuss is about,” after witnessing once abused and neglected farm animals prepare for sleepy-time at the leading farm animal protection organization’s California Shelter, you are sure to leave their annual Twilight Tour a card-carrying member of Team Compassion. At this unique evening event, which the organization has been hosting since long before the popular Twilight movie series took the world by storm, guests will have a chance to cozy up with the animals just before their bedtime, partake in delectable vegan snacks and listen to soothing music.
The Twilight Tour offers a unique opportunity to see the sanctuary residents in a new light — twilight that is! As the sun sets over the California Coast Ranges, visitors will be charmed as they meet and connect with the shelter’s beloved farm animal residents during a guided tour of the sanctuary premises. After the tour is complete, everyone will meet back at the People Barn for snacks and refreshments, including beer and wine. The night will conclude with the acoustic stylings of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Autumn Sky.
“Our Twilight Tour is about seeing another side of the animals at the sanctuary, namely the sleepy side,” said California Shelter Director Leanne Cronquist. “There is no more peaceful and comforting time on the shelter than when the animals get ready for a good night’s sleep. It is incredibly inspiring to see their vivacious spirits in action during the day, but it is equally moving to see them able to relax and fall asleep in a comfortable barn, forever free from the severe confines and terrors of factory farms. While there will be no heartthrob vampires at this event, the farm animals will steal your heart more than Edward Cullen ever could!”
Farm Sanctuary’s Twilight Tour begins at 6 p.m. with light refreshments and lasts until 9:30 p.m.
Registration has closed for this all-ages event, but media are invited to attend. If you would like to receive a press pass and/or speak with Farm Sanctuary California Shelter Director Leanne Cronquist, please contact Meredith Turner at 646-369-6212 or mturner@farmsanctuary.org.
