At Farm Sanctuary, a Deserving Lamb Gets a Second Chance
Bleu
had a rough start in life. His mother was unable to suckle him and
the sheep farmer who "owned" Bleu was unwilling to provide
him with the special care that he needed to survive. Thankfully,
a compassionate couple heard of Bleu's plight and intervened. The
farmer agreed to surrender the lamb to the couple, and they brought
the thin, sickly sheep home with them to recover.
For five weeks, Bleu lived in his rescuers' cozy garage and continued
to grow stronger and healthier each day. Greatly enjoying the lamb's
company, the couple spent hours frolicking with him outdoors, giving
him the physical affection he craved and making him feel at home.
Although they quickly fell in love with Bleu, the couple knew they
would not be able to keep him forever. They wanted to give him a
better life, and knew he would be happier living at a sanctuary
with other sheep.
When
Bleu's rescuers called Farm Sanctuary, we happily agreed to take
him in. After traveling all day from the San Diego area, he and
his adoptive parents arrived at our California Shelter early one
afternoon. Bleu seemed to sense right away that his new home was
going to be a great place to live, and he settled in at once. After
saying goodbye to his rescuers, Bleu immediately began forming new
friendships with our staff and volunteers. As you can imagine, the
tiny, adorable lamb became an instant star here at the farm.
Without a doubt, Bleu loves his life here at Farm Sanctuary. He spends most
of his time with another sheep named Persia, whom he loves dearly
and learns more and more from every day. When we first introduced
Bleu to Persia, he was so excited and joyful that he almost wiggled
out of his own skin. Seeming to suddenly remember that he wasn't
the only sheep in the world after all, he was totally mesmerized
by her. Persia, although initially wary of the small black and white
creature following her every move, soon grew fond of Bleu as well,
and now loves to be near him. We couldn't imagine a more perfect
pair!
