In 2022, we said goodbye to some of our best friends — pigs, cows, chickens, turkeys, sheep, goats, ducks, geese, and a llama at the heart of our lifesaving work.
Before coming to Farm Sanctuary, many survived abuse, neglect, and exploitation within animal agriculture. Others were at risk of meeting these fates had they not found a safe, loving home in our care.
You helped us give them a safe place to land — whether funding their daily care, sharing their stories of rescue and survival, or spending time with them on-site. In seeing them as individuals, not commodities, you gave them time and freedom to live on their terms.
Many enjoyed long lives in our care. For others, we mourn lives cut short by an unjust food system that pushed their bodies beyond their natural means. But whether we shared a day or a decade, it’s always hard to say goodbye to those we love.
The following tribute shows our friends as we saw them every day — some shy and sweet, others lively and opinionated, and each valued as someone, not something. We grieve their losses alongside you and are grateful to know they had your love and support.
Thank you for opening your heart, befriending and remembering these dear friends, and continuing to support our work in their honor.
