So here's what I do. I'm going to celebrate turkeys with one of the classiest organizations my wife and I have been supporting for more than a decade, Farm Sanctuary. We're going to have a special celebration for turkeys this November where we're going to hang out with turkeys. We're not going to eat them. We're just going to kind of chill, hang out, talk with the turkeys, eat a little veggies, maybe we'll hang out some other people, too.
The point is my mother-in-law is Turkish. No. That's not the point. It's true, but irrelevant. Anyways, this has been Biz Stone proudly talking about turkeys on behalf of this magnificent creature. Have a nice day. And happy holidays.
In the above video, Biz ruminates, “Turkeys are intelligent, social, curious, and sometimes even funny. I wish people were more like turkeys sometimes.”
The highlight of the distinctive annual event, which reflects the growing trend toward placing turkeys at the center of our attention, rather than at the center of our plates, is the famous Feeding of the Turkeys Ceremony, where the shelter’s rescued turkeys are the honored guests and feast on a buffet served by Farm Sanctuary staff of their favorite holiday treats: stuffed squash, pumpkin pie, and cranberries (on silver platters, of course).
This year’s event will commemorate Farm Sanctuary’s 25th anniversary and includes special guest presentations by vegan writer and chef Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, holistic health counselor and two-time Oprah guest Victoria Moran, Farm Sanctuary California Shelter Director Leanne Cronquist, Farm Sanctuary President and Co-Founder Gene Baur, a special musical performance by classical guitarist Indran Fernando, a delicious Thanksgiving feast, and, of course, abundant time spent with our rescued farm animal friends.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to adopt a turkey through the organization’s Adopt-A-Turkey Project, for which Ellen DeGeneres is serving as this year’s spokesperson. For a one-time donation of just $30, adopters will receive a special Adopt-A-Turkey certificate complete with color photo of a rescued turkey who resides at one of Farm Sanctuary’s shelters and fun details about their adopted turkey.
