We knew we could help this little family, so we brought Shani to his forever home: Farm Sanctuary, Los Angeles!

When Shani arrived, he was so tiny that his weight didn’t register on a scale! Before he could join his flock, he needed time and extra nutritious food to grow. Then believed to be a hen, he soon surprised us by growing into a healthy, strong rooster who, today, rules his roost. Shani manages his flock well, always sticking close to caregivers to ensure we do our jobs properly! This curious, intelligent bird expertly figures out the puzzle toys we offer for enrichment. Shani loves dustbathing, foraging, and being preened by the hens—but his leading lady is Dolly Parton, one of the newer hens to join our flock.
