Quick Tips

Gift Shopping for Vegans

If you have a vegan on your gift list and you’re not quite sure what’s off the table, just follow these three simple guidelines. Vegans want:

  1. Food free of animal ingredients (no meat, dairy, eggs, or honey).
  2. Items free of animal by-products (no wool or down, cashmere, leather, silk, beeswax, etc.).
  3. Cruelty-free products (i.e., items not tested on animals).

How can you make sure an item is vegan?

  • Food: Some labels include “Vegan” or a “V.” You can also check the ingredients; many food labels list allergens in bold (milk, eggs).
  • Clothing: Check the tag! Most clothing and accessory labels list the product’s materials.
  • Health and beauty products: Check for labels that say “cruelty-free” or have the leaping bunny logo.
  • Misc.: Avoid items that include carmine, gelatin, beeswax, whey, and casein.

Want another way to give this year? You can make a gift in honor or memory of a loved one, and we’ll ship them a special card.
