Food is often a representation of ourselves and our heritage. It can connect our past to our present – recipes are often passed down through generations and meals are shared with loved ones. When you choose to eat a plant based diet, every meal is also an opportunity to choose kindness and compassion.

As Black History Month comes to a close, we’d like to highlight the contribution that Black vegans have made to the movement and celebrate the rich culture of Black, vegan cooking.

Whether you’re a long time vegan or just dipping your toes into the movement, getting into a new cookbook is a great way to explore new foods and broaden your horizons – and maybe even find a recipe to pass down in your own family! Though this list is not at all exhaustive, below are 8 cookbooks by Black authors we recommend to get you started.
