Celebrate Mother’s Day by Giving Sanctuary!

At Farm Sanctuary, Mother’s Day is a celebration of survival and renewal.

Here, we honor moms like Amari and Olive: a sheep and goat who gave birth at our shelters after their rescues from abuse, neglect, and slaughter. Amari’s twins, Laura and Bailey, along with Olive’s daughter Maggie, never knew their mothers’ pain—only love and kindness at Sanctuary.

There are others, like Hayes, who grow up without their moms: Animal agriculture tears families apart, profiting on their sale and slaughter. At Farm Sanctuary, his chosen family includes other orphaned cows, along with cows who lost their children but still have a mother’s touch.

With a one-time gift of $35, you can adopt an animal or family and support their new lives in our care. Learn more about their journeys to Sanctuary below:

Olive and Maggie aren’t just mother and daughter—they’re best friends, too. These beautiful goats are rarely apart, often eating, exploring, and relaxing side by side. They’re the first- and second-in-command of the herd and love being the center of attention. They’re also great at stealing hearts (and extra treats)!

This is the only life Maggie’s ever known—she was born at Farm Sanctuary just months after Olive’s rescue from cruelty. That day, we helped liberate more than 170 animals from starvation, neglect, and slaughter. It was not the place to raise a family.

But here, Olive built a better life for her child—and they live together happily, beloved, and free.

Hayes

Hayes steer at Farm Sanctuary

Hayes lost his mother at a young age. He was born into the dairy industry, which separates families to sell milk. Boys are unwanted and are often sold for meat.

Shortly after Hayes’ sale, his new owners abandoned his care. A temporary guardian gave him food and took him on short walks. But Hayes was lonely and needed space to roam.

Hayes joined a loving herd at Farm Sanctuary. It includes a group of mother cows once denied the chance to raise their calves. He can now grow up with a chosen family who loves this playful and outgoing boy exactly as he is.

While Amari’s grown children now live independent lives, their family remains united by love.

Amari gave birth to her twins at Farm Sanctuary—just 10 days after her rescue. Their breed is one that’s exploited for meat, and Amari was wary of people at first. She may have lost lambs to slaughter before and wouldn’t let these babies out of her sight.

As they grew, Amari started trusting that they were all safe. She’s now one of the friendliest sheep in the flock and loves treats and attention! Bailey is often at Amari’s side, while Laura spends most of the day with friends. But the trio always snuggles up to sleep each night and when they’re together, they’re as close as can be.
