Why Is This Pig So Happy?

Why Is This Pig So Happy?
Happy pig was once lonely. Now, she’s surrounded by love.
For years, Happy endured the loss of her family and piglets to meat production, but when her guardian had a change of heart, her life was transformed.
The farm’s owners realized they had bonded with Happy and chose to save her life.
After all, who wouldn’t form a connection with sweet and gentle Happy? Who wouldn’t melt when she peeks at them from under her floppy ears?

We turned to our Farm Animal Adoption Network (FAAN) to find Happy the perfect home. Thankfully, our friends at Dominion Farm Animal Sanctuary could offer Happy a truly sweet home in Alabama, where she would be able to join fellow Farm Sanctuary rescue pigs Minnah and Todd.
Knowing that we had Happy’s permanent haven lined up, we brought her to Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen in the meantime—and she won the hearts of everyone she met during her stay with us. Her caregivers described Happy as an incredibly sweet individual (despite all the heartache in her past), with big ears reflecting her even bigger heart.
We took Happy for veterinary care and spaying, and she recovered at the sanctuary.
It was a slow and stressful journey to Alabama for Farm Sanctuary’s Ben Rumsey, Teagan Flora, and Elijah Swertfeger. Before hitting the road, we gave Happy medication to prevent nausea, but she was a bit motion sick nonetheless. Our team checked on her frequently and did their best to keep her comfortable, and on March 12, Happy’s dream life became a reality as she arrived safely at her new home.

Everyone was thrilled to see Happy immediately begin to explore and meet new friends.

Happy has nothing but love ahead of her, thanks to your support and the life-saving connections made through our community of adopters.

“Being part of the Farm Animal Adoption Network not only offers connection and community within the sanctuary movement but opens the door for rescues made possible by collaboration,” says Amanda Upshaw, founder of Dominion Farm Animal Sanctuary. “Through FAAN, we’ve been able to welcome not just Happy, but Minnah and Todd, too. It’s amazing to see these sweet pigs now become friends, and we will always support Farm Sanctuary’s work to advocate for all animals like them.”
