This is a critically important opportunity. In a city full of foodies and Michelin starred restaurants, a ban on selling foie gras will go a long way towards stopping this cruel and inhumane industry.

This Wednesday, October 30, the New York City Council will vote on a package of animal protection measures, including a historic prohibition on the sale of foie gras.
What is Foie Gras?
Foie gras, or “fatty liver,” is the diseased and enlarged liver of a duck or goose, produced through violent force-feeding via a tube shoved down the bird’s throat. Ducks who have come to Farm Sanctuary after being rescued from foie gras farms are among the sickest animals we have cared for in over thirty years.
Farm Sanctuary has been a pivotal leader in the fight to end the sale and production of foie gras for decades, sponsoring California’s landmark 2004 legislation to ban foie gras in the state, while also rescuing birds from this horrific industry.
Now it’s New York City’s turn to oppose this intolerable animal cruelty. Tell your City Council member to stand up to the abusive industry and vote “Yes” on Intro 1378a.
Intro 1378a
Intro 1378a is a common-sense bill that would prohibit the sale of foie gras from force-fed ducks and geese in New York City, with violators punished by a fine as high as $1,000. The proposed New York City ban would follow a similar statewide prohibition in California.
Take Action
Foie gras producers are fighting this bill tooth-and-nail. They’ve been lobbying council members and will be attending the vote hearing this Wednesday.
We need your help. In California, Farm Sanctuary members and our allies came together to enact legislation to ban the sale of foie gras state-wide. If you are a New York City resident, please take action now and speak up in support of Intro 1378a. If not, please share this message with friends in NYC.
In addition to sending your message of support for Intro 1378a, please join us to demonstrate support for the foie gras ban on Wednesday, 10/30 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at City Hall in Manhattan! We need animal advocates to show up in full force to urge the City Council to act on principle and protect animals instead of industry profits.
